Chapter One

Remember that time our Little Lady thanked God for "our family" three times during a prayer and we didn't realize she meant her family until she mentioned us later?

That's the sort of thing that knocks us back into reality and forces us to face the fact that she is not ours. She belongs to someone else. To her parents, yes, but also to God. She is ultimately His, and for some reason, he's tasked us with caring for her during this time in her life.

Brian said it beautifully...it's kind of like that book you borrow from someone and you've had it for so long that you actually forget it wasn't yours to begin with. Once you realize it, you secretly hope they'll forget you have it until you have a chance to finish it.

I'm not sure at what point we'd be "finished" with our LL and be able to put the book down, but I know we aren't there yet.

It still feels like we're on chapter one. And I don't want to put this book down; not even for a second.

I don't want to miss a thing.

LL's quotes:
- "I told you I have my own little tooth fairy. You don't have one. Yours went away when you grew up."
- "Dear God, Please make my dad give me a BB gun soon so I can protect myself from strangers. And kick and scream and flee. It's not nice, but it's fun. Or it's not fun, but it's what you have to do. In Jesus' name, Amen."

Her closet is filling up pretty quickly! Thanks for all of the gift cards, everyone!!!

Happy girl after a fun day of school, snow cones, bike riding, watching Bry's skydiving video, reading FOUR books, and taking a long bath!

About Us:

We began our foster journey in mid-August 2013. We finished our classes in October, had our home study in early January, and we were licensed on February 7, 2014. After seven calls from CPS, we received our first placement, a 7-year-old girl (our Little Lady, or LL for short) on April 3, 2014. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey through the craziness that is foster care. Most importantly, thanks for your prayers, love, and support. We hope to encourage fellow foster/adoptive parents as we document our ups and downs each day.
