Sogs for the Bande

We took our Little Lady to the neighborhood pool tonight for a "members only" pool party! We had so much fun watching her learn how to "dive" (aka jump), playing Marco/Polo, going around the lazy river, and just being together.

The good news: LL went running when they called the kids to come up for the hula hoop "contest." She has some crazy hula hoop skills. Well, maybe we just think they're amazing. She does this thing where she just stands there with her arms folded and she can hula hoop like that for like 5 minutes! She can even scratch her leg or give high-fives while still hula hooping. I think she would've won the contest if it had been an actual contest. Instead, it was one of those things where everyone wins and they had to let other kids take turns with the hula hoop. Ugh. The nerve. Just kidding...she still had a great time!

The bad news: At one point, a duck flew by and LL yelled, "Oh my gosh! It's a duck!" As she said that, the duck dropped an egg and it crashed right there on the sidewalk. The egg/yolk/placenta/blood splattered all over the sidewalk and the dead baby bird fell about 3 feet away. The staff cleaned it up pretty quickly, but it was a pretty terrible sight to see. LL bent down and cried over the bird for a few seconds. :(

For the second time in one day, LL had to deal with another death...the death of my in-laws baby sugar glider. Her brother died about two weeks ago, and today, she went to be with him in sugar glider heaven. LL cried for a while on the couch as we told stories of our favorite times together with Gizmo.

LL's quotes:
- LL: "Do you go to church?" Person A: "No, not really." LL: "WHAT?!?!???! Are you happy?????"
- LL: "Where do sugar gliders go when they die?" Me: "Heaven, I suppose." LL: "Can you look it up in your phone to make sure?" Me: "I don't think we'd be able to look something like that up on the internet. Only God knows what happens when animals die." LL: "Can you just look it up, just in case? Look up, 'Do sugar gliders go to heaven and can they talk?'" Yeah, nothing came up. Surprising.
- Here's an excerpt from a planning sheet she was working on for her new band! This is transcribed, excuse the errors.

"Sogs:
Good Gile
Stole my Harte
LoLoLove
Bad Boy's
My Man"

"Name's for the Bande:
Tigr's
Frst Hamaple
The Cat's
My Babe"

When I asked her why she was wearing a scarf to the pool, she replied with, "I just love scarves. They're fancy." Good enough for me!

CiCi's smile.

LL and I playing after dinner.

About Us:

We began our foster journey in mid-August 2013. We finished our classes in October, had our home study in early January, and we were licensed on February 7, 2014. After seven calls from CPS, we received our first placement, a 7-year-old girl (our Little Lady, or LL for short) on April 3, 2014. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey through the craziness that is foster care. Most importantly, thanks for your prayers, love, and support. We hope to encourage fellow foster/adoptive parents as we document our ups and downs each day.
