Dear LL,
I know you walked into our lives less than 150 hours ago, but it feels like it's been years. We're learning so much about you, and so much about ourselves. About us as individuals and about us as a team. About our marriage. About what it means to parent and love the way Jesus calls us to do so.
It will be my great pleasure if I can pass on these life lessons to you later in life, whatever our relationship may be.

So much for getting sleep last night...we were up every hour on the hour with LL...she had a runny nose and a sore throat. :( This is the not-so-glamorous side of parenting, huh?
She seemed kind of down when we picked her up from her third day of 1st grade, but I think it was due to the lack of sleep and the drainage in her throat. We have our ups and downs. We don't always know what she's thinking/feeling, or why she feels the way she does, and I'm not even sure that she understands all of her thoughts and feelings yet. The most important thing we can do in times like these is to validate her feelings and reassure her that she's allowed to feel happy, sad, angry, excited, overwhelmed, and so many other emotions. But, we're also working on not getting stuck in the traps of one emotion for too long. This will be a journey, but I'm glad we're on it together.
While LL was at school, Brian and I enjoyed our last day off by going to an afternoon movie. Tomorrow will be our first day back at work with a kiddo and two working parents. If only Lucy would hurry up and get a job, then maybe one of us could stay home and take care of things around the house!
LL's quotes today:
- "Does it say words?" (Referring to a baby.)
- Me: "What'd you learn today about the life cycle of a butterfly?"LL: "It goes: egg, caterpillar, fatter, chrysalis, dry wings, fly away." Good enough! :)
- "They call it a butterfly because they land on water. They used to be called flies. Siri told me."
- "Uhhhh!!! I wanna milk one!!!" (Referring to a cow.)

If you've ever wondered what a Barbie massacre looks like, here you go. No worries - it's just roll-on bath soap! (Thanks, Jan!)
Thanks, Jilly, for mailing our LL so many fun gifts and toys! She loves them - especially swimmer Barbie!
One of her favorite gifts from Aunt Jilly - a new jump rope!

About Us:
We began our foster journey in mid-August 2013. We finished our classes in October, had our home study in early January, and we were licensed on February 7, 2014. After seven calls from CPS, we received our first placement, a 7-year-old girl (our Little Lady, or LL for short) on April 3, 2014. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey through the craziness that is foster care. Most importantly, thanks for your prayers, love, and support. We hope to encourage fellow foster/adoptive parents as we document our ups and downs each day.
