I can fire people, you know

It's the half-empty shampoo bottle in the tub and the coiled toothpaste tube on the counter. The bookmark holding page 84 in the Jesus Storybook Bible where we read a story each night. It's the bent Slinky (that endured too many falls down the staircase) and the full laundry basket in her closet. The teddy bears that have multiplied on her bed as she's acquired new "friends." It's the water that has evaporated in the vase of flowers she gave me a few weeks ago and the empty Mr. Bubbles bottle in the bathtub.

Our time has been measured by all of these things. They all seem so simple in isolation, but together, they symbolize the time we've spent with our Little Lady in very real ways over the last 19 days.

We're trying not to take advantage of even one minute with our Little Lady. We have no guarantee of a future together, so every second counts.

LL's quotes:
- "Get to the good stuff! I wanna hear the real story!!"
- "That's how us country folk do it!"
- "Look - I got the chill bumps!"
- LL: "I can fire people, you know." Me: "What do you mean?" LL: "I can fire bad foster parents."
- "You hurt my feelings when you said I wasn't perfect." (It took about 10 minutes for us to explain that we absolutely believe that LL is special, unique, and precious, but that no one is perfect except for God. It was an interesting conversation for sure.)

I'm working on my drawing skills!

More sketching practice! We write notes to LL every day on this notepad and we draw lines to show which one of us wrote the note.

About Us:

We began our foster journey in mid-August 2013. We finished our classes in October, had our home study in early January, and we were licensed on February 7, 2014. After seven calls from CPS, we received our first placement, a 7-year-old girl (our Little Lady, or LL for short) on April 3, 2014. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey through the craziness that is foster care. Most importantly, thanks for your prayers, love, and support. We hope to encourage fellow foster/adoptive parents as we document our ups and downs each day.
