LL (aka Plantzilla)

A few weeks ago, our Little Lady checked out a book from the public library called Plantzilla. It's a heartwarming, hilarious collection of postcards and letters sent between a third grade boy, his mom, and his teacher. The little boy brings home a plant for the summer and it grows at astronomical rates and begins to take on human-like emotions. The plant seems to become another family member and the family cannot imagine having to return the plant to the science teacher when the summer is over. You might know where I'm going with this...

Maybe I was just feeling extra hormonal on this particular day, but as we flipped through the book and read the letters, I couldn't help but think that our Little Lady is Plantzilla.

One page in particular tugged on my heart as I reflected on our time together.

It reads:

"Dear Mr. Lester,

I am at a loss for where to begin. Events of this summer leave me quite baffled and searching for the proper way to put this. A metamorphosis has occurred in Plantzilla. He is no longer what he was. And we are not sure what he is turning out to be. Henry, Mr. Henryson, and I were wondering if it is ever possible for a plant to take on human characteristics. I know this sounds more than strange, but we were wondering if a species such as Plantzilla might show feelings. Henry wonders if I may have offended Plantzilla - not taking part in grooming his cilia. Despite that, Plantzilla shows enormous caring for us.

In assessing these developments, we wonder if perhaps some of the causes of these changes rest with our Mortimer. When we consider all of the time, careful attention, and nurturing he has lavished on Plantzilla, it leaves us with one conclusion alone: When you give a living thing love, you never know where it will lead. We have grown very attached to Plantzilla. Whatever will we do without him?"

Very truly yours,
Mrs. Henry Henryson"

Whatever will we do without you, little one?

LL's quotes:
- Me: "Why's your neck all red?" LL: "Probably cause my dad's a redneck."
- "Since you're not gonna have another kid here, can I take the bike?"
- Bry: "Probably...we just have to work it out with your grandma." LL: "Oh, my grandma is always worked out."

Someone's happy Mr. Brian is home from work!

Having waaaaay too much fun with the PhotoBooth app. Also, the blur is pretty pointless.

Wish you could see her goofy faces!

Playing tug-of-war with Lucy's frisbee.

About Us:

We began our foster journey in mid-August 2013. We finished our classes in October, had our home study in early January, and we were licensed on February 7, 2014. After seven calls from CPS, we received our first placement, a 7-year-old girl (our Little Lady, or LL for short) on April 3, 2014. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey through the craziness that is foster care. Most importantly, thanks for your prayers, love, and support. We hope to encourage fellow foster/adoptive parents as we document our ups and downs each day.
