The final countdown

As a former teacher, it is only fitting that I'm a little obsessed with countdowns. There's always something to countdown and look forward to in elementary school. The first day, the last day, Christmas break, the next day we get to wear jeans, etc. It doesn't matter what it is, we just love a good countdown. Am I alone here??

Even before I became a teacher, I was all about countdowns. Brian and I dated for three and a half years before we got married. We loved countdowns so much that we even included a countdown on our wedding invitation...yes, the number says 1,239 days.

I loved countdowns until the clock started about a month ago when we realized we wouldn't even make it to October 1st with our girl.

Instead of counting down to Halloween or her birthday, we're counting down to the final hours we'll have with her.

With each day that passes, we are beginning to countdown the day-to-day events that used to be so ordinary and mundane.

I'd give anything at this point to have a few more times to straighten her hair, take her to school, or go to Einstein Bagels on a lazy Saturday morning as a family of three.

8 days
168 hours (most of which she'll spend with her teacher, asleep, eating, or with CPS)
5 more morning carpool trips
One more Saturday morning
One more Sunday at church
7 more dinners to share our highs and lows from the day
7 more times to speak truth to her and read our bible together, tuck her in and hug her tightly.
5 more days to talk to the friends she's made at school

A handful of days to make a lifetime of memories that we'll cherish forever.

LL's quotes:
- "It's so early. How are you already sweating, Mr. Brian?"
- "Bye house I'll never see again." (Said as we left Bry's mom and dad's house.)

"Come on, Mr. Matt!"

Hi there, precious 10-month-old!

Such a big boy!

Jan is such a great grandma. She had craft supplies ready for the girls.

Hi, again! I love you!!!!

Visiting my in-laws house was one of the things on LL's bucket list. We had a great time with our family.

On a bug hunt!

This is so perfectly her. Leotard, a tutu, cowgirl boots, and a bug catching kit. Just love her carefree spirit so much.

About Us:

We began our foster journey in mid-August 2013. We finished our classes in October, had our home study in early January, and we were licensed on February 7, 2014. After seven calls from CPS, we received our first placement, a 7-year-old girl (our Little Lady, or LL for short) on April 3, 2014. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey through the craziness that is foster care. Most importantly, thanks for your prayers, love, and support. We hope to encourage fellow foster/adoptive parents as we document our ups and downs each day.
