Counting our blessings

I came across this email tonight that I sent to our agency's home developer on September 29, 2013. We were just days away from finishing all of our fostering classes and completely unaware of the blessing our Little Lady would be to us someday.

"Heather - Thanks for the info and the document! We worked on the kids' room this weekend and we wanted to send you a few pics. We're still nervous, but really excited!!! Thanks for talking with us on Thursday night. We've been praying that God will let us know the age range we should decide on...right now we're thinking 4-9 years old, one child (for now- we might be open to sibling groups later), either gender, any race, basic care. Yes, your email below is correct- we'd be interested in fostering, fostering to adopt, and straight adoption. See you Monday. Have a great weekend!"

Here was her response:
"Aww so sweet!! It looks great! God will bless you for taking this leap of faith! Hold on to that promise no matter what the enemy tries to throw in your way! Something a friend shared with me you might like: 'If it is of God, it is already blessed. We are just walking out the blessing.' Keeping you in our prayers."

LL's quotes:
- Bry: "I wasn't able to eat lunch today." LL: "You're the principal. You can do whatever you want!"
- "Why do people get divorced?"
- "Do you and Mr. Brian ever fight? Like the, 'I didn't do that' kind of fighting?"
- "I've eaten spicier things before. Like volcano sauce!"
- "Pray that my ancestors stay safe."
- LL: "Can I take communion?" Me: "Why do you want to take communion? What does it mean to you?" LL: "Laurie Ann gets to take communion. It means a lot to my heart."

How a 7-year-old "helps" get the mail.

About Us:

We began our foster journey in mid-August 2013. We finished our classes in October, had our home study in early January, and we were licensed on February 7, 2014. After seven calls from CPS, we received our first placement, a 7-year-old girl (our Little Lady, or LL for short) on April 3, 2014. Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our journey through the craziness that is foster care. Most importantly, thanks for your prayers, love, and support. We hope to encourage fellow foster/adoptive parents as we document our ups and downs each day.
